Purchased these many years ago as an interesting historical string of costume pearls. Probably made of glass and fish scales. Clasp is gold, and the strand comes in the original antique box they came in.
Cover was originally silk, but is now almost worn away.
In the cover interior is a note that says- " Wedding necklace of Eliza Ann Th........., of Philadelphia. Granddaughter of of Ellen Seton Ogden, 1816-18?".
Unable to decipher the surname of the bride.
A very unusual piece, and in amazing condition for the age. Condition: Good. Under magnification, a couple of the pearls have some damage. Box cover worn as stated. Size: Length of strand- 16 inches. |
