RARE 1942 MEXICAN LOS BALLESTEROS SILVER BROOCH PIN
From the renowned Taxco Talleres de Los Ballesteros ... Leave it to Los Ballesteros to not only produce a brooch with elegant and classically wrought silver making, but also to imbue it with wonder, enchantment, and poignancy. Depicting a bucolic motif replete with iconic Mexican imagery—a burro, water jug, demure farm woman, and lush agave cactus, almost looking like the tree of life—the pin is a small masterpiece of hand-rendered repoussé, remarkably detailed chasing, delicate silver roping, and meticulous cutwork. A traditional design brought vibrantly alive in lustrous silverwork, this is a jewelry piece of alluring dimension and character.

HALLMARKS: BALLESTEROS, STERLING, HAND MADE, TAXCO. This rare, early hallmark—fully documented in Bille Hougart's The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks—dates the piece to c.1942. DIMENSIONS: 2-1/2" x 1-1/4". WEIGHT: 8.9 grams. CONDITION: Excellent to superior vintage condition, with no issues evident. The pin is fitted with an early, but secure rollover-locking clasp.
