Iconic Inca motif ~ Laffi-inspired modernist manner! …
Distinctly characterized by a semi-circular blade, the tumi was a ceremonial knife used by Inca and pre-Inca cultures in sacrificial rituals. This spectacular brooch takes its motif from the tumi, but its execution boasts the pre-Columbian/modernist style and signature technique that figure so prominently in the works of Graziella Laffi. A tour de force of handwrought silver making and lapidary, the brooch displays meticulously detailed and defined cutwork, tool work, piercing, and silver appliqué, as well as dazzling embellishments of turquoise, malachite, and lapis lazuli gemstone inlays. This is a singular work of wearable art and a sublime mid-19th-Century Peruvian collectible. Hallmarks: PERU, 925. Dimensions: 2-7/8” x 1-7/8”. Weight: 24.1 grams. Condition: Fine vintage condition. |
