Retro ’50s fashion with a dash of Deco! …
A craze swept the country during the 1940’s and ’50s to manufacture handbags out of plastic telephone cord! Today, these purses are popular collectibles and difficult to find. This spectacular piece is quite rare among phone cord bags: It is designed as a clutch and sports a chic, white metal frame with fabulous goldtone clasp. Applied to a ground of pale red twill, the coiled cords in this vibrant beauty display a vivid palette of primary colors—and they’re all laid out in a divine display of Deco-style patterns. The front and back of the purse are identical, and the hard, flat bottom is comprised of solid green cords in a mirror image geometric motif. The interior is fully lined in black faille. Wearable art at its kitschiest! LABEL/MAKER: Unmarked. DIMENSIONS: 11” x 4” x 1-1/4”. CONDITION: Excellent, shows no signs of wear inside or out. Collector quality and eminently wearable. |
