Difficult to find ~ Hard to resist! …
Montreal-based designer Gilles {Guy} Vidal worked in pewter and was in production at about the same time as noted Canadian modernist Robert Larin. However, it was widely held that Vidal’s creations were more sophisticated and, for pieces cast in pewter, more delicate and airy than Larin’s. An exceptional example of his work, this dazzling bracelet was cast employing the artist’s unique formula of pewter and low-grade silver, which gave the ability to render more subtle designs that still held their strength. It is an imposing, splendidly articulated piece that boasts an abstract and highly textural, modernist motif, while displaying the sculpted look of fine silver. With Vidal’s designs hard to find and extremely collectible, it is a sublime example of why his jewelry is in such demand today. HALLMARKS: Vidal’s early gv mark, which most probably dates the bracelet to the 1960’s. DIMENSIONS: 7-1/2” x 1-1/4”. WEIGHT: A very substantial 85.4 grams. CONDITION: Superior vintage condition, definitely collector quality, including a secure, push bar v-spring and box clasp that becomes fully integrated into the design when closed. |
