Exquisite Mexican silver making from one of the world’s foremost costume jewelry designers …
In the 1940’s, legendary designer Marcel Boucher {who apprenticed with Cartier} turned to sterling silver to create his jewelry works. He established the Parisina hallmark, which defined a distinguished line of pieces produced exclusively in Mexico, during the World War II years. Since the mark was used so briefly, today Parisina jewelry is highly collectible and becoming more difficult to find. This divine cockatoo brooch boasts a marvelous interplay of imaginative, almost fabulist design and masterful silver making, including hand-rendered répoussage, deep and detailed incising, subtle oxidizing, and fanciful, elaborate wirework. A showstopper of superb dimension and definition, it is a singular entry in Boucher’s Parisina line—superlative wearable art, and a distinctive display piece for any vintage Mexican or Marcel Boucher collection. HALLMARKS: PARISINA; STERLING, MEXICO. Marcel Boucher is featured in Bille Hougart’s The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. DIMENSIONS: 3” x 1”. WEIGHT: 12.7 grams. CONDITION: Superior vintage condition, definitely collector quality, including a secure rollover-locking clasp. Please note that the locking mechanism or clutch on the pin clasp is brass, which is typical of Parisina pins and is original to the piece. |
