A bird is a bird is a bird! …
This large and extraordinary brooch was handwrought by a decidedly skilled and creative artisan. It is composed of .925 silver and depicts a highly stylized bird, which has been so brilliantly crafted that no matter how you turn it—up, down, or sideways—it remains a bird! Almost fabulist in form, the piece boasts expert silver making technique, including hand-rendered répoussage, cutwork, applied silver work, beadwork, intricate chasing and tooling, and subtle oxidizing that enhances the exceptionally multidimensional design. Though the country of origin is not delineated, the pin displays many of the characteristics of pre-Columbian-influenced jewelry produced in Latin America, during the 1950’s—especially in Mexico, Peru, or Ecuador. It makes for a splendid—and attention-getting—work of wearable art. HALLMARKS: 925. DIMENSIONS: 3-7/8” x 1-3/4”. WEIGHT: 16.3 grams. CONDITION: Superior vintage condition, definitely collector quality, including an early but secure, rollover-locking clasp. |
