Divinely Dimensional! …
Uniquely inventive and expertly constructed, this overlay bracelet is a dazzling example of Taxco artistry from the late 1950’s. Handwrought in sterling silver, it is composed of seven deeply convex, square panels, interlinked by pairs of soldered, floating O-rings, at the top and bottom. Each panel has been meticulously designed in three distinct layers. First, there is a patinated silver base, to serve as contrast. Then, a silver overlay, whose center has been cut out in the form of a circle. And finally, the panels alternate with two different, silver, Aztec glyphs, which have been mounted on small “pedestals” of solder, so that they are raised above the circular, patinated ground. The pre-Columbian icons—Ozomatli, the monkey, and another symbol consisting of a spiral, pyramid-like motif—boast superb cutwork, piercing, and incising, and accentuate the bracelet’s exceptional depth, detail, and dimensionality. HALLMARKS: STERLING SILVER; TAXCO; QUINTO; Eagle assay stamp #3 {silhouetted}. DIMENSIONS: 6-1/2” x 7/8”. WEIGHT: 47.1 grams. CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition, including a secure, push button v-spring and box clasp. |
