Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis worked as a book editor at Doubleday & Company for sixteen years, starting in 1978. I worked at Doubleday, as Copy Chief and Associate Manager of Advertising & Promotion, during 1985 to 1987. I was most privileged to work on many of Jackie’s books during that time, and to enjoy a very cordial, professional relationship with her. It was not often that I received written notes from her, since she preferred making quick phone calls to transmit messages. However, when I worked on one of her pet projects, she generously took the time to write me this note of thanks. “To June Townshend Dear June — You were nice to write me about A Princess Remembers — thank you Jackie” It is quite rare to find an autographed item by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. It is even rarer to come across one signed informally “Jackie.” This note is a very special collectible for historians, as well as aficionados of this exceptionally gracious woman and celebrated American icon. |
