Big, bold + beautiful! …
One-of-a-kind wonderful, this handwrought, sterling silver, modernist brooch boasts a sublime Arts & Crafts panache. Imposing in dimension and design, it is composed of a circular silver disk with a dynamic, openwork spiral motif. At the end of each of the seven spiral arms is a polished, tumbled gemstone, held in a silver wire prong setting. Among the colorful assortment of gems appears to be aquamarine, amethyst quartz, pink quartz, emerald, tourmaline, jadeite, and an unidentified lilac quartz. The centerpiece of the brooch comprises a gorgeously luminous and radiant, fire opal cabochon, set in a smooth, oval silver bezel. The piece is completed with a raised silver rim that lends exceptional depth and dimension to the overall design. HALLMARKS: STERLING, with an illegible mark beneath it. DIMENSIONS: 2-7/8” in diameter. WEIGHT: 47.6 grams. CONDITION: Most likely dating to the 1950’s, it is in excellent vintage condition, with no cracks or chips in the gemstones. There is a natural internal fissure in the fire opal, but it cannot be felt on the surface. The brooch is fitted with a secure rollover-locking clasp. |
