Sleek + Chic
This exquisitely constructed, modernist bracelet hails from the 1950s or 60s, and was handwrought by one of the highly skilled, independent artisans who produced work for the renowned Los Ballesteros taller in Taxco. Designed as a buckle cuff, it is composed of vermeil, otherwise known as silver gilt {sterling silver which has been plated or rolled with gold}. The buckle element is exceptionally elegant and offers two size adjustments. The cuff itself is hinged and opens quite wide for easy on and off; and it closes with a substantial hinged locking bar that snaps securely into place. A most sophisticated showpiece, it is eminently wearable and also makes for a distinguished collectible for display. HALLMARKS: B {stylized, inside circle}; TALLERES DE LOS BALLESTEROS, TAXCO, GRO {circle}; STERLING {semicircle}; 925 {inside semicircle}; HECHO EN MEXICO; Eagle assay stamp #12 or 13 {silhouetted}. Los Ballesteros is featured in Bille Hougarts The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. DIMENSIONS: 7-1/4 inner circumference at its biggest adjustment; 6-1/4 inner circumference at its smallest adjustment. The width of the bracelet measures 1 at the buckle and 5/8 around remainder of cuff. WEIGHT: A very impressive 88.7 grams. CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition, with only some minor surface scratches from normal use. |
