In the manner of the mid-century modernist studio jewelers …
The exhilarating inventiveness and craftsmanship of this open cuff bracelet evokes the works of such masters as Esther Lewittes, Paul Lobel, Art Smith, Henry Steig, Ed Wiener, and Frank Miraglia. Handwrought in substantial sterling silver, it boasts a dazzling structure that is at once elegantly Art Deco and boldly primitive. By overlapping planes, alternating silver sheet with partially flattened silver wire, and applying oxidation, the artisan has not only created striking, multi-dimensional effects, but imbued the overall design with dramatic light and shadow. This is an imposing and impressive piece, whose form and function adorn the body in visually dynamic metal art. HALLMARKS: STERLING, TAXCO {circle}. DIMENSIONS: 6-1/4” inner circumference, plus 1-1/2” back opening. The cuff can be adjusted to some degree, without damage. The width measures 2-1/8” at its widest point and tapers to approximately 3/4” at the terminals. WEIGHT: 69.1 grams. CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition, definitely collector quality. BOOK REFERENCE: Information regarding this period of Modernism can be found in Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960: The Wearable Art Movement by Marbeth Schon. |
