| Matthias Zdarsky was born Feb. 25, 1856, in Trebitsch, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in Czech Republic), and died June 20, 1940 in Sankt Pölten, Austria He was a ski instructor who was considered the father of Alpine skiing and who was probably the first regular ski instructor in Austria. He developed a move which was performed by turning one ski to the side, in whichever direction the turn was intended, and quickly bringing the other ski into parallel position, a maneuver known as the stem Christiania. Zdarsky also improved ski design and ski bindings and organized downhill races. The poster was created in 1929 by the German artist Jupp Wiertz (1888-1939). The poster is linen backed, measures 27" x 23" and is in excellent condition. | ||
