Fine antique traveling vanity case in coromandel wood, inlaid with brass fittings. Hinged top with a fitted interior of ebonized wood partitions and compartments for three dresser jars, two crystal scent bottles, two dresser boxes, a pincushion and holder for accessories. Partitions open to lower compartments, a hidden/secret drawer and an original mirror in the blue velvet covered lid. Lids for the dresser jars and boxes are silver plated. Circa 1860.
Measures about 10 3/8 x 9 inches, 4 1/2 inches deep, and 14 1/2 inches when open. The leather inside the mirror compartment is marked: I-J-Mechi-Maker 4 Leadenhall St London. Minor losses and dents to the exterior veneer and wear to the dresser box lids, otherwise this is excellent, elaborate and beautiful.
