This is a FABULOUS RETRO PAIR OF HEADVASES or LARGE CUPS. Someone thought they looked like giant egg cups, maybe ostrich eggs? Either way, these are an intriguing couple, with obvious mid-century Italian flair. Hand made in Italy of molded, incised and painted pottery. Imported by Meiselman Imports. Excellent condition – no cracks, chips or repairs, but these do have some glaze crazing, which is typical of the era. Probably made in the late-1960s or early 1970s. The importer was started in New York in the mid-1960s (but could have started earlier in Europe) and lasted under the Meiselman Imports name until 1980. The lady (numbered “E/545”) stands about 8 1/2” tall and 5 1/2” across the top. The gentleman (numbered “E/544”) stands about 9 1/2” tall and 5 1/2” across the top.
