Victorian 14K Gold Brooch Hand-Painted Portrait Medallions, Turquoise and Seed Pearl Accents. Beautiful Victorian era yellow gold brooch. The central brooch is made from three connected hollow panels. Each panel has a hand-painted portrait medallion and the center one has turquoise and seed pearl accents. The brooch is from c1860s, but it was altered at a later date. It looks like it was originally longer … the outer panels or extensions have been removed … see photo. Also, the pin and clasp are of a later, 20th century style. Still, this is gorgeous and beautifully made!
The gold is not marked, but tested as at least 14K. Condition is very good, with losses to a few of the acanthus leaf decorations, but the portraits are intact, the chase work spectacular and there are no bumps or dents in the hollow panels. Measures about 2-5/16 by 1-11/16 inches and 1/2-inch thick. Total weight is about 0.725 Troy ounces (22.6 grams). There is a heart and initials scratched on the back of the center panel.
