Pair of Antique Portraits from the 1860s. This is a married couple. The man's photograph is an ambrotype and does show a bit of a halo around the image (typical of the three-dimensional effect that these images display); the lady's photograph is a tintype that is in excellent condition.
Each portrait is a 1/9 plate size image and in a nice photograph frame case made of leather covered wood. Inside the cases have a velvet lining and a gold metal frame and glass. The lady's case has a replaced piece on the bottom of the frame. The cases are about 2 7/8 inches x 2 3/8 inches by 5/8 thick when closed. The couple is identified as Henry Harrison Oilar and Rebecca Ann Loman Oilar, grandparents of Miriam Oilar Woods, great-grandparents of William R. Woods, and great-great-grandparents of Marcia (last name withheld at her request). |
