These polychrome glazed terracotta busts depict elegant male and female Moors, and are signed GR. They are of German or Austrian ( Austro-Hungarian ) origin and date from the last quarter of the nineteenth century. They reside on turned wooden pedestals. Each has obvious chip losses here and there, and stress cracks to the wooden socles. We are not familiar with the hallmark, and believe it may be an early mark by Goldscheider...
This antique Bacchus themed terracotta sculpture after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1877) depicts a group of cherubs stomping wine grapes. It dates from the late nineteenth century and measures 16.25" (41 cm) tall and 20.5" (52 cm) wide. It is signed "Carrier-Belleuse". This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment.
