Included here are a pair of Art Deco period, patinated spelter metal plaques by the important American painter, illustrator and sculptor, McClelland Barclay (1891-1943). Each measures 8.75" across and depicts a female in kneeling pose. Additional images forwarded upon request.
This unusual metal sculpture is believed to date from the mid-twentieth century. Its form and patina are reminiscent of the sculpture of Lynn Chadwick and Paul Evans. Purchased at auction at Rago, and unfortunately we have no additional details on provenance. It is unsigned and the alloy is unknown. The base is crafted from a ferrous metal while the sculpture itself is non-ferrous. Condition is good...
This patinated cast white metal sculpture, circa 1900, depicts an Arab fighter on horseback after the original model by Emile Coriolan Hippolyte Guillemin (1841-1907) and Alfred Barye (1839-1882). It measures 25" tall, 19.5" wide and 9.5" deep, and weighs an estimated 20-25 lbs. It is signed " Ele. Guillemin " and " Barye. Fils ", and carries a mark which reads " FABRICATION FRANCAISE PARIS MADE IN FRANCE ", suggesting the piece dates from sometime after 1892...
This patinated white spelter sculpture on black marble base depicts a listening hunter, after the original designed by either Jean de Roncourt or Ugo Cipriani. We have seen this design referred to as The Listening Man. (These sculptors shared a studio and are known to have influenced each other.) Purchased in France over 10 years ago. Measures 13" by 7.75" by 25.75" (33 cm by 19.75 cm by 65.25 cm). There is no signature on this French sculpture, and its age and foundry are not known.
This French Art Deco patinated white metal sculpture depicts a hunter and lion. It has an onyx marble base with white veins, and is signed " Limousin ". Measures 22" by 7.5" by 33.25" (55.75 cm by 19.00 cm by 84.50 cm). There are flake chips (roughly 1/16" deep and less than 1" across) from the stone base on the upper edge of the right side, and from the front face at the right front corner. Weighs an estimated 35-45 lbs.
