This magnificent sculpture depicts an American bald eagle perched on a rocky peak, and appears to be a work inspired by the Eagle of Preparedness by the American sculptor, Paul Wayland Bartlett (1865-1925). The original work by Bartlett was created in 1916 and was inspired by the sinking of the British ship Lusitania. The event sparked a military “preparedness” movement in America, and Bartlett's eagle was an expression of his support for the Allied cause and the move to rearm...

This delightful marble sculpture, after a model by Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814), depicts two cherubs wearing crowns of grapes and leaves, at play beside a goat. Inscribed "Clodion 1886". Measures 40" tall, 32" wide and 21" deep (101.6 by 81.3 by 53.3 cm). It was purchased from lot 372 in sale 1716 at Christie's in New York on 10/24/06. Condition is excellent. There are chip losses, consistent with age, around the perimeter of the base, but no major damage nor signs of restoration...

This large, antique Grand Tour bust in rouge and white marble depicts the Roman caesar Marcus Aurelius (121-180 AD). It measures 31.5" tall, 23" wide and 12" deep. This sculpture likely depicts a Greek or Roman emperor or god, such as Zeus. The bust and socle are separate pieces. It is not signed and is believed to date from the nineteenth century. This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment.

This magnificent figural marble group by the Italian artist, Aristide Petrilli, dates from the last quarter of the ninetenth century, and depicts a young maiden sleeping on a bench, surrounded by cherubs. One is suspended on her shoulder and whispering in her ear, while a group in cloud formation floats above the bench and are presenting flower baskets and a box overflowing with jewels. A trio of cherubs on the left are singing as they read from a musical score...
