This is an exceptional, original large bronze by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clesinger (1814-1883), cast by the Parisien foundry, Marnyhac, in 1868. It depicts combat de taureaux romains (a pair of sparring bulls) and measures an impressive 38.5" by 20" by 10" (97.8 by 50.8 by 25.4 cm). Included here are two extraordinary silverplated vases dating from the nineteenth century, depicting Cupid and Psyche, the lovers from Roman mythology. Each measures 19.3" and 10" in diameter (49 by 25 cm) and each weighs an estimated 6-8 lbs. (2.7-3.6 kg). We have found no hallmarks, but cannot rule out the possibility they exist. One possible maker is WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), whose marks are extremely small and often difficult to spot...

This extraordinary, palace-size French Empire Revival armoire dates from circa 1900, and measures 98" (8 ft 2 in) tall, 60" (5 ft) wide and 22" deep. It features extensive and massive bronze mounts throughout by the French bronzier Kahn, who according to Sotheby's was a leading bronzier working in France in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Underside of mounts bear the stamped mark "KAHN". We have found no other markings and the cabinet maker is unknown...
