This is an exceptional, original large bronze by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clesinger (1814-1883), cast by the Parisien foundry, Marnyhac, in 1868. It depicts combat de taureaux romains (a pair of sparring bulls) and measures an impressive 38.5" by 20" by 10" (97.8 by 50.8 by 25.4 cm). This bronze comes from the collection of Jack Palance (1919-2006) and bears the paper ownership label he applied to each of the items in his substantial collection of fine art...

This vintage chandelier dates from the early twentieth century and features five concentric levels of cascading crystal pendants ending in a facited crystal ball. It measures 24" tall and 16" in diameter. Narrow and wide circular frames are decorated with upright crystal palm leaves and are joined by crystal chains. There are four sockets and their working condition are not known. There are only a few pendants missing which can be easily replaced...

Included here is a pair of antique wall sconces, circa 1900, with triangular bronze frame and two bronze candle arms, featuring clear cut glass inserts with checkerboard design, and clear glass candle drip pans with etched designs. Each has modern wiring and is ready for use. Each measures 14" wide and 14" tall. The bronze frames have a repeating lotus flower motif. The candle arms have the form of a single flower stalk with leaves, and end in curling scrolls with rosettes at the ends...

This matching pair of 64" (162 cm) tall torchieres from Edward F. Caldwell are crafted from carved marble and feature neoclassical, figural gilded and patinated bronze candlearms with serpent motifs and seashell drip pans, modeled after designs by Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904). The marble pedestals feature carved floral, fish and swan bird motifs and rest upon gilt bronze platforms...

This unique tripod pedestal table in the French Directoire style has a polished brass frame, three legs with rings and ball feet, and a metal top with floral painted decoration and elaborate cartouches. It measures approximately 28" across and 32" tall. This table resides with our client in midtown Manhattan ( New York City ) and may be seen in person by appointment.

This antique occasional table dates from the nineteenth century and features elements of Louis Xvi and Directoire style. It features a rouge and white variegated marble top, and blue patinated frieze decorated with twisted garland and neoclassical masks in bronze. Its original wooden legs are decorated with spiraling bronze garland mounts and are connected with a stretcher with rosette in center, and sit upon splayed bronze feet ending in animal hooves...

Included here are two extraordinary silverplated vases dating from the nineteenth century, depicting Cupid and Psyche, the lovers from Roman mythology. Each measures 19.3" and 10" in diameter (49 by 25 cm) and each weighs an estimated 6-8 lbs. (2.7-3.6 kg). We have found no hallmarks, but cannot rule out the possibility they exist. One possible maker is WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), whose marks are extremely small and often difficult to spot...

This lovely French Empire gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock features a gild winged cherub figure with drapery motif above the dial, and reclining neoclassical male figure at the base. The movement is working and the original pendulum is present. Maker is unknown. The escapement is marked " H.L.F. " for the maker, and "Bte S.G.D.G." for Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" which simply translates to "Patented without any guarantee from the Government". It measures 20.5 in...

This antique Bacchus themed terracotta sculpture after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1877) depicts a group of cherubs stomping wine grapes. It dates from the late nineteenth century and measures 16.25" (41 cm) tall and 20.5" (52 cm) wide. It is signed "Carrier-Belleuse". This antique glazed white porcelain cachepot by Sevres features gilded ram heads. It measures 9.5" tall and 10.75" across (24.1 by 27.3 cm). Condition is very good, with no visible cracks or repairs. This extraordinary, palace-size French Empire Revival armoire dates from circa 1900, and measures 98" (8 ft 2 in) tall, 60" (5 ft) wide and 22" deep. It features extensive and massive bronze mounts throughout by the French bronzier Kahn, who according to Sotheby's was a leading bronzier working in France in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Underside of mounts bear the stamped mark "KAHN". We have found no other markings and the cabinet maker is unknown...
