This vase by Ludovico Diaz de Santillana (1931-1989) exhibits his Canneto design (meaning grove of reeds in Italian) with tiny elongated teardrop bubbles throughout. Base and top have their original ground and polished surfaces, and the underside has the etched signature "Salviati". The sides are very thick, approximately 0.5 in (1.3 cm). Condition is excellent. There are relatively few scratches to the bottom surface and no chips or visible cracks, and no deep scratches as well. There are a couple very faint scuffs to the top surface and near this area is an original indentation from a burst bubble from the time of manufacture. Based on the signature it is likely this vase was produced in 1988 or 1989, shortly after the Salviati firm was acquired by Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Venini & Co. Ludovico was the artistic director of the firm from 1959 (following the death of Paolo Venini) until 1985 when the Gardini and Ferruzi familes purchased the firm from the Venini and Dias de Santillana families, and it was renamed Venini S.p.a. Though in 1986 Lucovico had gone on to found the firm of EOS Design nel Vetro with his daughter, Laura, it appears likely that Salviati continued to produce this design in his absence. We have also seen signed examples of the Cannette design marketed under the Venini & Co. name. Weighs 9.9 lbs. Dimensions: 12.1" H X 7.2" W X 5.1" D (30.7cm H X 18.3cm W X 13.0cm D).
