RICHARD FLORSHEIM Sunset Landscape Oil Painting
This expressionist oil painting on gesso-covered board by Richard Florsheim (1916-1979) is entitled Fire - Low Tide. Signed "R A Florsheim" in lower left corner. Board measures 10" by 13" and frame measures roughly 15" by 18" by 1". Original typed paper label on rear bears the title of the work, medium and size. This painting resides on the upper west side of Manhattan in New York city and may be seen by appointment.

Florsheim was born in Chicago, studied at the University of Chicago, and was active as a painter, sculptor and graphic artist in his hometown, Milwaukee, Provincetown and Woodstock NY. He served as Assistant Director of the Chicago Arts Center Association (1951-52), taught at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee (1949-50), and at the Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago (1952-63). He was a member of the National Academy of Design, the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Provincetown Art Association (and served as Trustee and Vice President from 1962 to 1971), the Chicago Society of Artists, and Artists Equity Association.

He exhibited at APAAFAA (1934-35), LAMA (1934), SFMA (1935), the Art Institute of Chicago (1940-43, 1934, 1946, 1954), WMAA (1940), Toledo Museum of Art (1942), Philadelphia Print Club, Corcoran Gallery (1957 & 63), National Academy of Design, ACA Gallery of New York, among others. His works are held in the collections of MoMA, the Woodstock Art Association, Musee du Jeu de Paume in Paris, Musee Nationale d'Art Moderne, among others.

On 10/10/07 in New York, Sotheby's offered a large (44" x 60") painting by Florsheim entitled "Night City" in lot 43 in their General Fine Art auction. This lot had an estimate of $20,000-$30,000 and did not sell.
