|This polished aluminum and glass cocktail table has been attributed to Paul Mayen (1918-2000) for Habitat, circa 1965. Glass top measures 36" square and the table height is 16.5". Aluminum frame measures 30" square. There is a flake chip roughly 2" long from the underside near one corner of the glass. This design by Mayen is believed to have been marketed, or copied and marketed, in the UK by Zaruch. Mayen was born in Spain and obtained a B.F.A. from Cooper Union Art School in New York, and a Masterís degree from Columbia University. He taught classes in advertising design at Cooper Union and the New School in New York City. He was the long-time companion to Edgar Kaufmann Jr., and is known in particular for his design, c1980, of the pavilion at Fallingwater, the world-famous home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This table design is also very similar to one by David Hicks (1929-1998), the famous designer to the British royal family. In 1969 his table, Tavolo Scultura, which was available only through Galleria Pitti Roma in Rome and in their gallery in Paris. His table is shown on page 49 in the May 1969 edition of Casa Vogue.
