| This antique porcelain painted plaque is a fine copy of the Sistine Madonna, the oil on canvas painted circa 1513 by Raphael. Plaque measures 8.5" by 11.25" and frame measures 12.5" by 15.25" by 1.5". This framed plaque was recently purchased at a small estate sale. A prior owner added the numerous pencil markings on the rear. There is an old paper label with German text that appears to related to import/export or an early retailer of the plaque. The quality of the painting is exceptional, consistent with those from KPM. There is a crossed swords mark in blue on the left side on verso, attributed to Meissen, which may be spurious. We have found no artist signature. This item comes from a family who have been collecting European porcelain for four generations. It resides on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment. | ||||||||||
