| This engraved print is entitled LES THERMES DE DIOCLETIEN A ROME (at top), VUE PERSPECTIVE … RESTAURATION (at bottom). It depicts the Baths of Diocletian (Thermae Diocletiani) which were the grandest of the Roman public baths. Lower right reads A. GUILLAUMOT PERE SC. Below "VUE…" it reads "Imp. Ch. Chardon" indicating the engraver, Charles Chardon who worked in the late 19th century in Paris. Below "RESTAURATION…" it reads Firmin-Didot & Cie. Editeurs. At the lower left it reads E. PAULIN DEL. Condition is excellent. Slight fold in center. Folio page mark in upper right corner, but the folio name and date is not known. Frame measures 26" high, 34.75" wide and 1" deep. Portion of print exposed under matte measures 18.2" by 26.75". Plate marks are very light and visible up close. This item comes from the collection of Roni Steinberg Sokoloff and resided in her former 63-acre estate in Bedford New York known as Cantitoe Farms. (The estate is down the road from Martha Stewart's home by the same name.) Ms. Sokoloff purchased the piece in the early 1980s. | ||||||||||||
