| This framed pastel by the Russian-born American painter, Bernard Gussow (1881-1957), depicts three women and a child lounging in the grass and is entitled "Group on the Hill". Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Frame measures 20.5" by 13.25" by 1". Painting measures 17.75" by 10.75". This is one of two works by Gussow that we currently have for sale. Gusso was trained at both the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design, and studied under Bonnat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He began to receive critical acclaim around 1913 and exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists between 1917 and 1934, and at Salons of America in the 1930s. (Source: AskArt.) | |||||||||||
