This wonderful pastel still life was painted by the New York artist, Nathan J. Hale, in 1890. This still life in the trompe l' oeil style depicts a table top with decanter and fruit. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner. This work resides under glass in a frame measuring 18.5" by 15.75" by 0.75". This painting was professionally framed within the past five years and we have not removed it for inspection. The painting is in excellent condition, with no visible signs of foxing or other damage. According to the National Academy of Design Exhibition Record, 1861-1900 (published in New York NY by Kennedy Galleries Inc. in 1973), Hale exhibited there from 1864 to 1866. We know nothing more about the artist. This work resides with our client in Larchmont and may be seen in person by appointment.
