This antique trade guild goblet with lid (or humpen) likely comes from the German state of Hesse and may date from as early as mid-seventeenth century. It features extensive enamel painted scenes depicting royalty and various animals in panels separated by Greek or Roman columns. It measures 17" tall and 6.75" across, and the beaker alone without top measure 12.75" tall. There are obvious losses to the enamel, but no visible repairs, chips or cracks. This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment. It is one of two Hessen humpen which we currently have for sale.
