|This is an exceptional, original large bronze by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clesinger (1814-1883), cast by the Parisien foundry, Marnyhac, in 1868. It depicts combat de taureaux romains (a pair of sparring bulls) and measures an impressive 38.5" by 20" by 10" (97.8 by 50.8 by 25.4 cm). This bronze comes from the collection of Jack Palance (1919-2006) and bears the paper ownership label he applied to each of the items in his substantial collection of fine art. It was purchased in the Palance estate auction conducted on October 12-14, 2007, by Keystone State Auctioneers of South Williamsport PA.
