| This magnificent sculpture depicts an American bald eagle perched on a rocky peak, and appears to be a work inspired by the Eagle of Preparedness by the American sculptor, Paul Wayland Bartlett (1865-1925). The original work by Bartlett was created in 1916 and was inspired by the sinking of the British ship Lusitania. The event sparked a military “preparedness” movement in America, and Bartlett's eagle was an expression of his support for the Allied cause and the move to rearm. His eagle was perched upon a rock with military shield at its feet. The sculpture measures 32" by 10" by 12" (82.6 by 25.4 by 30.5 cm). The quality of the carving is wonderful. We have found no signature. | ||||||||||
