A carpenter’s tool to mark the surface of boards with a precise cutting line. This early 20th century wood sumitsubo is hand carved and a turtle (minogame) sits in front of the wheel and a crane’s head is carved at the end of the bowl where the plum line extends through the porcelain hole and is attached to a stickpin. The hand winder is missing and a nail is used to keep the wheel in place. There is small loss of wood on one side of the turtle’s head.
