SOLD 

A well worn and tattered work coat/jacket that has been patched and reworked to extend its life. The work jacket was hand sewn from many recycled cotton pieces of indigo kasuri, brown & grey plaids, stripes and non patterned remnants. There are many areas of sashiko stitching. Part of the lower front panel is missing.

From the turn of the century, Meiji era, is this Japanese wood money box, zenibako, with its original iron hardware. The box's top has a lift top lid and a money slot. The drawer under the slot would originally have locked, but the mechanism is broken. The lock that held the lift top lid down is also non functioning which prevents it from being carried by the handle. The wood shows scratches and loss of patina. There is a corner metal strip on the face of the box which is missing. Two other iron corner pieces have lost a small bit of their plate.

From the first quarter of the 20th cenury is this Japanese glass kerosene oil lamp in a metal stand. The burner is marked the Kinzoku & Co. and the chimney is marked K.G.F., Made in Japan. the The globe is frosted around the collar and has a chip on the end that sits in the metal shade holder. The metal shade holder has been stretched to accommodate the globe, perhaps this globe is not the original one. The 5 spoked base is made of iron while the pole and lamp holder is made of either copper or brass. The lamp tripod holder extends from the collar down into curley cues which are welded to the pole. The pole is attached to the base with a wire - the entire stand is very stable.

This chochin, collapsible lantern, is made of cloth with a ferrous metal top and bottom. The lid under the handle lifts open and allows the candle to be attached to the pricket. There are two chains inside which keep the lantern hanging at the right length. Please note the seam which has a 3/4" tear and also please note the stains on the fabric. There is rust on the metal top and base. Dates from the Meiji - Taisho era.

The lacquer of one lid's underside has bubbled & cracked and there is a chip in the other lid's rim - please view photos. There are 181 black and 180 white stones. Dates from early 20th century.

The aroma of shaved dried fish lingers on the box and plane used to produce "kezuri bushiki". The iron blade of the plane has the trademark "Shigemichi". The box probably had another purpose before being repurposed into a fish shaver receptacle as the drawer front is inoperable. There is a break in the lid's top and there are nicks, abrasions and loss of patina to the box from its years of usage. Dates from early 20th century.

With sutra scroll in right hand, the Amida Nyorai sits atop the lion dog. The muted shades of lacquer bring a serenity and softness to the bronze statue. The Buddha is held in place by a prong that extends into the shishi's body. It appears that the patina was scratched (purposely?) on the shishi's body. Weighs unpacked 9 pounds 12 ounces.
