Fish net mending tools, including hand carved wood shuttles and cord cutter (misuzu) are attached to a thick cord. Also attached to the thick cord is a stiff needlework pouch which stores the shuttles. A carved wood fish is strung on the cord like an ojime. A great mingei piece.

Offered for sale is this unique and more difficult to find sewing box with its telescope arm. Half of the lid flips back and within the box is the smaller pincushion box attached to the telescopic arm which extends 8 3/4". The 4 drawer fronts are beveled and each has a metal pull. There is a slot for the ruler, but it is missing. It has mortise & tenon joint construction and wood pegs. This keyaki wood sewing box, haribako, is in overall good condition.

The body and lid of this incense burner has open work in the hexagonal shape of a honeycomb. This white porcelain koro has a shishi finial and dragon heads for handles. It was made in the San Gyoku-Sen kiln and comes with its original wood box. The box is dated 1976. It is in good condition.

The Ainu people of Hokkaido, Japan, are well know for their tradition of carving wood bears. In this well carved sculpture, a hungry cub looks to its mother for a dinner of salmon. Carved from one piece of wood, the sculpture is in over all good condition. There is a stress crack in the lower eye rim and a gouge of wood which was probably present before the piece was carved.
