A display and history of toothpick styles used in Tokyo during the Edo period and ending in the Meiji period. This grouping of toothpicks were produced by the "Rain Castle" manufacturer, and the artist is Morikoke. The wood used to make these different shapes is chromoji. Samurai were involved in their production during this time era. Shapes are eel, lucky shape, gun, kiseru, knife, pine and plum. In additional there are examples of chop sticks for the formal tea ceremony.

The toothpicks are attached to a felt like fabric. They are displayed behind a glass pane in a black lacquered frame. The frame has much loss and chipping of lacquer.

A cast iron tetsubin with Ryubundo signed bronze lid. A loose translation of kanji on one side reads: Bamboo grows, Wind Blows, Contentment. There are two seals. The tea kettle was filled with water for 24 hours - it did not leak. There is the usual rust on the kettle's interior.

This ceramic tanuki, or raccoon dog, is a traditional part of Japan's folklore. He has many well know and likable attributes associated with him; for example, mischievous and love of sake. He is a good size fellow, and weighs 17 pounds 4 ounces. Over the years his ceramic body has acquired a few small nicks - on his back, sake bottle and along the base rim. There is writing on the inside - the tanuki was given as a gift for a special event.
