A jacket with sashiko stitching throughout the garment. The stitching is meticulous with a beginning rectangle shape repeatedly enlarged as it is stitched from the center to the side seams. It is a light-weight 2 layer jacket. The outer backside has fading and there are a couple rust like stains on the inside center shoulder area. Dates mid century or earlier.

Offered for sale is this vintage "half under kimono" or Han Juban made of cotton flannel (body) and sleeves of silk with a light weight wool lining. There is a 1/16 inch hole in the silk sleeve and the faded saffron colored wool lining has numerous holes and mends (boro) in both sleeve linings. The collar is fraying. Please see photos for condition.

This silk and cotton han juban (half under kimono) is strikingly beautiful with its vibrant butterfly collar, katazome bamboo bodice and traditional fans/flower patterns in the sleeves. The sleeves and collar are made of silk with the sleeves lined in cotton. The body of the piece is made of fine cotton with paste-resist stenciling. There is discoloration on the front panels as well as some staining on the lining at the bust line level. There are 3 spots on front side, stains on the collar and slits in the collar fabric. Dates first half 20th century.
