The Ainu people of Hokkaido, Japan, are well know for their tradition of carving wood bears. In this well carved sculpture, a hungry cub looks to its mother for a dinner of salmon. Carved from one piece of wood, the sculpture is in over all good condition. There is a stress crack in the lower eye rim and a gouge of wood which was probably present before the piece was carved. Please see photo.
