This ceramic tanuki, or raccoon dog, is a traditional part of Japan's folklore. He has many well know and likable attributes associated with him; for example, mischievous and love of sake. He is a good size fellow, and weighs 17 pounds 4 ounces. Over the years his ceramic body has acquired a few small nicks - on his back, sake bottle and along the base rim. There is writing on the inside - the tanuki was given as a gift for a special event.
