This andon lantern, with its two wood circles, one inside the other, allows the outer circle to revolve. The candle's light output is controlled by the size of the opening. Each circle has 2 quarter vertical paper panes. The top section of the lantern has a more bright urushi lacquer than the base. The paper lantern top can be removed from its stand. The lantern is in overall good condition. The paper has been replaced and there are nicks, wood discoloration and some loss of lacquer to the base and stand. Dates early 20th century.
