Te-aburi, or Small Hibachi Handwarmer, from Meiji era

Te-aburi were used as handwarmers and carried from room to room. A guest at a tea ceremony would be offered the use of one.
This piece has a keyaki base with wooden pegs attaching the bronze bowl. The copper top is pierced with flowers and perhaps a mon, or family crest. A bit of leather was sewn around the copper handle to allow it to be picked up without burning one's fingers. The round shape has timeless appeal with simplicity and elegance.
This teaburi dates from the Meiji period, pre-1920.
Dimensions:
Height including handle: 8"
Height without handle: 6-1/2"
