Hibachi with Integrated Kotatsu

This hibachi has a wooden cover that may serve as a small kotatsu, or frame to support a futon or heavy blanket. The two-piece top is drilled with varying sized holes and is copper-backed. One lower side of the box is removable but the firepan doesn't slide out. There's also a lacquered firepan cover that may not be original to the piece. The varied holes suggest bubbles, giving the piece a cheery demeanor. Dates from Taisho or early Showa era.
