Wonderful woven head cover, worn by hunters of a mountain clan called Matagi. The Matagi, isolated from society, were group hunters using primitive methods. The hat's lining is pretty much gone, but it still has an impressive exterior, complete with old brass buttons for trim. Age of hat is uncertain, but likely dates from Edo or early Meiji period.
