This heavy woven, indigo-dyed fireman's coat has an official-looking exterior and a whimsical interior. The outside has a broad red stripe edged in white running down the shoulders. Kanji on the lapels identifies the fire station as does the large circled logo on the back. The inside has a cartoon-like picture of a firefighter carrying a ladder into a maelstrom of sparks and flames. The patterns are made by resist-dying the fibers before weaving, a process called ikat. Dimensions: Length: 31" Width cuff to cuff: 51" Width across body: 25" Additional photo at: http://tokugawaantiques.com/product.php?productid=844&cat=0&page=1 |
