Signed Ranma Pair in Smooth Cedar with Carved Insets

Smooth and attractive ranma pair hold cartouches with finely carved scenes against a field of clear smooth cedar. One of the pair bears the artist's signature. Three carvings depict the three friends of winter: pine, bamboo and plum (Shoo-chiku-bai) plus iris, all beautifully carved. The panels are both pierced with scattered chrysanthemums and framed in plain cedar. They're darker on the back sides than the fronts, and if washed they would be as bright as new. One cartouch frame is a bit loose in the ranma and there are small holes in the tops of the frames where they were held hooks for hanging.
