Mokujo, or Wooden Training Rifle for Jukendo
This wooden rifle with a blunt rubber end was used either for military training or for the jukendo martial art. It's 68" long. The end is still pliable rubber but the leather thong attaching it has broken. This piece has a metal collar below the rubber tip. There's a rattle when it's tapped on the end, as if it's cracked, but the crack is not apparent.
There's kanji writing on the stock. Dates from mid-century or earlier.
