Piece of satin weave silk with Chinese characters embroidered in different colors of silk in different writing styles. The characters chosen, such as Fu, Lu and Shou, have auspicious meaning. The textile is a fragment of a larger entity, which was mounted as a scroll painting by way of conserving it. China, late 19th or early 20th century.
Silk embroidery: 33 ¾ x 13 inches. Mounting: 66 ¼ x 20 ¼ inches.
Few small holes in satin, some bleeding of color, slightly soiled, all consistent with age and usage. All in all good to very good condition.
