Ceramic handwarmer or teaburi in the shape of Daruma without limbs, completely wrapped in his garment. The face modeled and engraved in the unglazed clay, the garment glazed in red with green patches and white slip. Nostrils left open. Signed at bottom: Juan Hirauchi saku and two impressed seals: Juan and Hirauchi. Raku kiln, Japan, Meiji/Taisho era, early 20th century.

H 10 ½ inches

Some light traces of usage in the form of small glaze chips on top of the head, along edges and around the opening in the back. All in all very good condition.

Brown smooth earthenware, decorated with a shoulder imitating thick dripping glaze, going over a slip band with an impressed, slightly raised decoration of chrysanthemums, spirals and blossoms. Bottom left unglazed and with impressed gourd shape seal of the unidentified maker. Mingei. Japan, late 19th, early 20th century.

H ca. 7 inches.

Few abrasions and unimportant chips consistent with usage and age.

Kogo, small box for keeping incense, in the shape of a dragon toad with fangs and mane. Compact, but intricate shape. Brown earthenware with deep green glaze, leaving the face of the dragon free. Raku seal impressed in bottom. Raku ware. Japan, Edo period, ca. 1850.

Fine condition (tiny chip that can hardly be seen by naked eye).
