Fish shaped waterdropper, brown and cream colored agate ware ceramic, called neriage in Japanese, in which a sheet of patterned clay is folded into the intended shape, covered in a clear glaze. Signed at bottom ‘ro’ or ‘aki’, which is part of the artist’s name Akada Toro (or Tsuchiaki). Japan, 1990s.

Excellent condition

Comes with original wooden storage box stamped on cover ‘tsuisaito’ (textiled clay mosaic ware) and stamped on the inside of the cover with the artist’s seal ‘Toro’ (or Tuschiaki). Additional seal on the side of the box, over the seam between cover and box ‘ro’ (or ‘aki’), the same as the signature on the piece itself

Large, relatively tall chawan, as used in the tea ceremony. Light brown coarse stoneware covered with a celadon colored translucent glaze with brown speckles and with a purple and blue-green splash on the front. Unsigned. Japan, Aizu, Fukushima prefecture, Japan, Showa era, circa 1973.
Comes with the original fitted wooden tomobako, inscribed on the outside … chawan; on the inside signed ‘made by Ryoichi, 7th generation of the Munakata kiln’ and with the seal Munakata-gama (Munakata kiln).

H 3-1/8 x Dia 4-1/2 inches

Perfect condition.

Set of two tokkuri of bulbous shape, one with slightly everting rim. Light brown stoneware, all sides covered with almost transparent glaze with milky streaks. Unglazed clay under finger- and thumb-marks from dipping into glaze. Both with square seal imprint (unread). Attributed to Matsumoto Hiroyuki. Japan, ca. 1985.
Bottle A: h 4 1/8 in, diameter 2 7/8 in. (10.5 and 7.3 cm); bottle B: h 4 3/8 in. diameter 3 1/8 in. (11 and 7.8 cm).
Perfect condition.

In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 3 x 3 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches (7.5 x 8.5 x 8.5 cm). The box inscribed at the front with the name of kiln Shi-hô nobori hatsu-gama, and the word gui-nomi (wine cup) beside the artist’s signature reading HAMADA CHIKUSÔ above a square red seal CHIKUSÔ.

In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 3 ¼ x 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches (8.5 x 8 x 8 cm). Inscribed on the lid ‘wine cup’ (gui-nomi), and signed inside the lid: HIROSHI tsukuru (made by HIROSHI) above a square red seal HIROSHI.

In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 2 ½ x 4 x 4 inches (6.2 x 10.2 x 10.2 cm). Inscribed on the lid: dragon blood color, wine cup (gui-nomi), and signed RINAN above a square red seal RINAN.
