On the front and in the bottom are applied decorations in blue and white of a running horse. On the back a decoration of a family crest (circle surrounded by 8 small circles). Oval vessel standing on four pillar feet with a straight edge, as used for wide ikebana flower arrangements. Grayish earthenware with brown teadust glaze, with shimmering and dark brown swirls in the lighter brown. Relief stamped mark in the middle of the bottom and potter’s mark towards the edge of the bottom. Japan, perhaps Kyushu, Showa era, 1960-1980s.

H 3 x L 11 x D 8 inches.

Several small chips on the outer rims, standing edge on the inside lovingly repaired and retouched.

Relatively high, straight sides with a constriction under the edge, decorated with the typical green glaze patches and geometrical patterns and plant motives in iron brown on white slip. Bottom inside left unglazed. Impressed seal in bottom, in the shape of a flying plover. Seto ware, Oribe style, Japan, Taisho period or early Showa, 1920s-1930s.
