Globular porcelain vase with on the outside a multi-hued brown slip with a bold décor of leaves or flowers in brown and black enamels. Bottom signed in underglaze blue Arita-yaki, Mitsukaze of Kofu saku. Original paper label, identifying the object as an Aritayaki, flower vase by Kofu (Aritayaki Kofu no hanakaki). Japan, Hizen, Imari, Showa era, circa 1970s.

Small and elegant sentoku, or yellow bronze, urn-shaped vase on four feet that raise up as nyoi scepters. The sentoku covered with a darker brown patina with hand painted black spots, imitating smoke and grime traces. Art deco feeling. Japan, Showa era, 1930s. Unmarked.

Earthenware tray-like vessel in the shape of a basket with handle. On one side with triangular openings. The right half covered with the typical green glaze, covering the handle, as well. The handle is engraved, so as to simulate a rattan wrapped handle. The inside on the left decorated with a fisherman in a boat and plants in brown glaze. The outside decorated with geometric motifs. Standing on three small feet. Signed with a single character on the side (underglaze) and with the same character engraved in the bottom. Japan, Showa era, dated 1976.

Almost square silk fukusa or ceremonial cloth with a brocade weave design in black, white, red and silver-gray silk threads on a ground of gold brocade weave. The design shows an open fan painting with a dancing crane and short text with seal. The text states that the design is after a painting by Takeuchi Seiho (1864 -1942) and ends with Seiho’s red seal from the 1940s. Reverse decorated in brocade weave with a shippo design. Brown silk tassels. Japan, Showa era, mid-20th century.

From a tear in the leaf a crab emerges, chasing another crab that is holding a golden piece. Brown thick stoneware, like Tokoname, with some touches of gold enamel. Signed at bottom (illegible). Pair of golden yellow silk fukusa or ceremonial cloths, with diamond pattern with water birds design in brocade weave, over which is embroidered in different hues of pink and in goldthread. The larger fukusa is decorated with a lobster carrying a treasure boat, holding several of the treasures. The smaller fukusa is decorated with a treasure boat, as well. Reverse decorated in brocade technique with a family crest in white silk. Japan, Taisho or Showa era, ca. early to mid-20th century.

H 29 ¾ x W 26 ½ inches and H 24 ½ x W 22 ¼ inches.

The smaller one with slight bleeding on the reverse (consistent with usage). Otherwise both in excellent condition.

Large carving in one block of wood. The Emperor Jinmu, the legendary first emperor of Japan, standing in his typical way, sword and long bow in his hands, arrows on his back, looking up to see the Yata Crow that leads him and his troops through Yamato. The original bow has been lost and is now replaced by a curved stick. Very good carving, using the grain of the wood to the advantage of the sculpture. Japan, Taisho or early Showa period.

H without stick 33 ½ inches

Detailed carving, good patina, few minor chips on the base, on the edges of his garment and in beard. All in all excellent condition.
